Consumer data can provide valuable information to retailers and manufacturers. However collecting consumer data is becoming more regulated, which means companies need to consider additional ways to collect this information. One option for collecting consumer data is through product registrations.

What Is Product Registration?

Product registration means that you are providing the manufacturer with your contact information. While it may not seem like it is important to complete the registration, imagine if there is a recall or safety notice regarding the product. By completing your new product registration, manufacturers will now be able to notify you in case of a serious issue with your new product

How Important Is Registration?

The importance of product registration greatly depends on whether or not the product warranty is tied to the product registration. There are some products that will require you to complete the product registration in order to take advantage of the warranty, while others may not. Since there is no clear answer, it is best to complete the product registration each time you buy an applicable product. This will ensure that your warranty registration is completed and your product is covered.

What Are the Advantages to Product Registration?

While consumers often think product registration is a cumbersome process, there are many advantages of product registration. Some of the key benefits consumers may see from product registration are as follows:

What Are The Benefits of Product Registration to Manufacturers?

There are numerous benefits to manufacturers by collecting production registration data from consumers. Here are some of the key benefits: Manufacturers have commonly collected product registration data in one of three ways. These three options  are as follows:
  1. A product registration card that is provided in the product packaging. This is commonly a card, similar to a postcard that is provided within the product packaging. The consumer would fill out the form, then drop it in the mail to send to the company. With this method, there is normally no postage needed.
  2. An online registration method. This method generally requires the consumer to go to the company’s website and fill out a generic form with their information. This information is often provided within the product packaging as well. However, with this method, the consumer is filling out a generic form and searches for their specific product in a list of products.
  3. An online product registration experience that is tied to a QR code. This is the most seamless experience, as it provides an easy way for the consumer to easily scan the QR code and be directed to a form that is related to that specific product. This means the consumer can immediately have their product registered with the company.
There are numerous platforms on the market that can assist with creating a solution like option three above. Lumavate is a digital experience platform (DXP) that enables you to easily create product registration forms and have that data sent directly into your system of record. By using Lumavate you can incorporate the product registration form into your product onboarding experience. This means that when consumers scan the QR code to submit their product registration, they can also access instructions, how-to videos, manuals, and more. All of this contributes to a seamless experience and assists the consumer with ensuring the warranty registration is completed and their product is covered if the need arises. Ready to learn more?
