Our PWA Bracket Challenge is in full swing, and it’s time to see how our favorite PWAs fared in the Sweet 16 round! In order to make it on to the Elite 8, these PWAs went head-to-head on Best Practices as graded by Google’s Lighthouse audit. The Lighthouse audit scores out of 100, so the higher the score, the better in this round!

The Best Practices category is a bit of a catch-all for some general best practices for creating mobile experiences that are secure, fast, and app-like. For example, one test within this category ensures that the name of the PWA won’t be cut off when saved to the homescreen, another makes sure the PWA is run on HTTPS, and another makes sure that images have correct aspect ratios for all screen sizes. (For a full list of this category’s tests, check out Google’s Lighthouse Scoring Guide.)

With such a wide range of tests within this category, the competition was fierce in this round, which is why we’re positive that these Elite 8 PWAs are here to play. Without further ado...here are your Elite 8!

We had some close calls, didn’t we?! Trivago came in hot with a nearly-perfect 94, but they were no match for Instagram’s perfect 100. And how about Twitter and West Elm? We were sure that West Elm’s PWA would advance with their made-for-mobile experience, but Twitter’s “Twitter Lite” pulled ahead. We’ll be excited to see how they stack up with the rest of the Elite 8.

Are you surprised at any of the results? Who do you think will come out on top in our next round? Try out the Elite 8 PWAs with the links below (as always, make sure you’re on mobile!), and let us know over on Twitter, and we’re already looking forward to the Final 4 to be announced on Monday! In the meantime, enjoy some of the real March Madness, and we’ll see you next week!
