And the winner of the 2018 Progressive Web App Bracket Challenge is… Starbucks!

Much like the March Madness tournament this year, the PWA Bracket Challenge was filled with dramatic competition, but Starbucks reigns supreme.

Beyond the thrill of the Bracket Challenge, let’s dive into the Starbucks PWA story and discover why Starbucks decided to build a PWA in the first place, and some of the results they’ve seen.

In 2015, Starbucks released their nationwide mobile ordering app. Soon after, they wanted to add ordering functionality to their website as well and decided PWA technology was the  best way to deliver an app-like experience, no matter the location or internet connectivity.

David Brunelle, the Director of Product Engineering at Starbucks, and his team led the charge in building the Starbucks PWA, and since its launch in September of 2017, it has seen incredible success.

Thanks to specific PWA requirements, the Starbucks PWA is not only faster than its native mobile app counterpart, it's 0.4% (you read that right...0.4%) of the size. The PWA gives coffee-drinkers around the world all the feel and functionality of a native mobile app without the download while freeing up precious storage space. It’s no wonder the PWA has become a fan favorite among Starbucks’ most loyal customers.

With these results, the Starbucks PWA is a clear winner in providing users an easily-accessible, lightning fast mobile experience!
